Motherboard ASUS P4S800D-E Deluxe architecture

Expanding a spectrum of the products, ASUSTeK corporation recently on the basis of chip set SiS  655TX has developed and has released rather inexpensive multifunctional motherboard ASUS P4S800D-E Deluxe. This card is taken up a position as a basis of high-powered computer systems with processors of Intel of Pentium  of 4 NetBurst architectures.

Motherboards concern to important and technological difficult the computer accessory, making considerable impact on functionality and productivity of computers. Chip set SIS 655TX Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation corporations (SiS corporation) is oriented by the manufacturer of the given chipset of system logic to the architecture of high-powered desktop personal computers. Supports processors of Intel of Pentium 4 with processing technique Hyper-Threading, 0,13 microns created on processing technique hooked up through Socket 478 plug and working with bus FSB of type QPB (Quad-Pumped Bus), providing data transfer on frequencies 400, 533, 800 MHz.

Chip set SIS 655TX consists of two traditional components — North Bridge and South Bridge. These components are jointed by the special 16-bit wire MuTIOL  16 working on frequency of 533 MHz and with capacity of 1 Gbyte/with. This bus is developed and takes root in the products SiS corporation. The given bus allows, according to its implementators, to use all potential of modern controllers of peripheral devices of the computer system.

North Bridge component is presented by chip SIS  655TX. Link with the processor is carried out by means of bus QPB with a pass-band of 3,2/4,2/6,4 Gbytes/with.

In the given component processing technique Advanced HyperStreaming is realised. This processing technique, according to its implementators, will organise information streams, in particular accelerates its passing from the controller of the bus of the processor to the memory controller. It increases the common productivity of system.

The built in controller of memory supports to 4 DIMM two-channel memory DDR333 and DDR400 in total amount to 4 Gbytes (to 1 Gbytes on DIMM). Two functional modes of a subsystem the memories providing usage or two channels of a traditional pattern — 2х64 bit, or one wide channel — 1х128 bit are possible    . The built in controller of a drawing supports one arrangement 0,8/1,5 In AGP 3.0, working in modes AGP 8Х/4Х.

South Bridge component is presented by chip SiS  964. It is characterised by a complete set of the network and communication characteristics which have become standard for similar units of the modern architecture of computers.

Built in in South Bridge SiS 964 controllers realise two channels IDE with support ATA 100/133 (to four arrangements IDE), two ports Serial ATA 150 with possibilities RAID 0, RAID 1 and JBOD, eight ports USB 2, six PCI (32 bits/33 of MHz), LPC 1.1 (Low Pin Count). Its other characteristics concern integrated Fast Ethernet/Home Networking Controller with MII Interface, supporting 10/100Mb Fast Ethernet or 1/10Mb HomePNA 2.0 with External PHY. Support 6 channel AC ’ 97 and V.90 Software Modem, and also traditional control functions energopotrebleniem is Besides, provided, including ACPI 2.0 and APM 1.2.

It is necessary to mark, that complete with chip NorthBridge SiS  964 as South Bridge component simplified variant SiS 964L — chip SiS 964L, not providing difference from SiS 964 supports of disk drives with interface SATA can be applied    .

Therefore in the systems created on the basis of the given card, usage of processors of Intel of Pentium 4 with processing technique Hyper-Threading and the bus of 800 MHz providing reaching of a maximum level of productivity is recommended  . However usage and less efficient models is possible. It can be, for example, the processors calculated for the bus of 533 MHz and even of 400 MHz. Thus together with motherboard ASUS P4S800D-E Deluxe probably application of models and without support of processing technique Hyper-Threading. Besides, together with this card can be maintained and models of processors Celeron of NetBurst architecture though, it is necessary to recognise, that it does not provide the high levels of the productivity accessible to more efficient variants of processors and the given motherboard. It is necessary to add, that, according to implementators, except the specified variants, can be applied and processors of Intel of Pentium  4, created on the basis of kernel Prescott and using Socket 478 plug . However, in accompanying documentation possible models are not specified.

The functional mode of memory modules DDR SDRAM can be as one-channel (to 3,2 Gbytes/c), and two-channel (to 6,4 Gbytes/c). It is necessary to remind, that the two-channel mode allows to receive completely depthbalanced system in the event that pass-bands of the processor bus and the memory bus coincide and make equal values — 6,4 Gbytes/with. Thus operation of memory modules DDR SDRAM can be or synchronous — clock rate coincides with frequency FSB, or asynchronous — clock rate differs from frequency FSB.

Chip VIA VT8237 allows the user to build RAID 0 and RAID 1 arrays of two disks Serial ATA 150. This possibility can be realised by means of the architecture of motherboard ASUS P4S800D-E Deluxe of one more chip expanding possibilities of a disk subsystem integrated into structure. As this chip it is used SiS  180, fulfilling functions of specialised controller RAID. This controller by means of two hard disks which are hooked up to Ultra DMA 133 plug (Ultra ATA 133), and two hard disks which are hooked up to two Serial ATA plugs, provides not only RAID 0 and RAID 1, but also RAID 0+1 and and JBOD (a Fig. 9). Thus, in the system created on the basis of motherboard ASUS P4S800D-E Deluxe, can be created two arrays of disk drives RAID, one of which can be RAID 0+1. And in default from arrays RAID with system there can be ten independent hard disks: four disk drives Serial ATA 150 and six — Parallel ATA 100 (Ultra DMA 100/66/33).
