Abit corporation which products well-known in the domestic market, has developed and has released vysokointegrirovannuju motherboard ABIT KD7-G created on the basis of chip set VIA Apollo KT400.

Key feature of the given card — application in its architecture of the integrated controller Ethernet Gigabit providing a peak transfer rate to 1 Gbit/with. Besides, as a part of this card the big number of controllers of peripheral devices is realised. The given card is oriented to creation of the high-powered computer systems banked in local area networks with data transfer on LAN Gigabit.

Motherboard ABIT KD7-G is calculated for support of a wide spectrum of processors AMD Athlon and AMD Duron with Socket A plug (Socket 462).

Traditionally choice of the computer is carried out from the analysis of the used processor. Really this unit makes the big impact on computer power. However it is impossible to dump about scores and other accessories. Perhaps, one of the major roles is played by the motherboard. Functionality of the modern computer substantially depends on its choice, as is known, including its productivity in a wide spectrum of solved tasks. Paying due attention to the central processor unit, it is impossible to underestimate and a role of this component of the computer. This component of the system which have concentrated in overwhelming number of controllers, substantially defines its future potential, its future functionality, including productivity, dependability and stability of operation.

The architecture of modern motherboards is grounded on application of the newest electron technologies. Implementation of these processing techniques is carried out through used chips, as a rule, high complexity, and also design and production of these cards. Technical parametres and operation of computers depend on a choice of applied units and quality of manufacture of motherboards, eventually.

It is necessary to mark, that many computer corporations are engaged in development and release of motherboards. Their number already makes many tens. Production of these corporations differs both design, and technical parametres. Some manufacturers are well enough familiar in the Russian market, and their production uses the deserved popularity. These corporations release a wide spectrum of the products oriented to processors of different manufacturers.

One of such well-known corporations which are engaged in development and release of motherboards, Abit corporation is. This corporation rather has released recently the bar of motherboards ABIT KD7 created on the basis of chip set VIA Apollo KT400 and oriented to support of a wide spectrum of processors AMD Athlon and AMD Duron with Socket A plug (Socket 462). Flagman model of this bar is, perhaps, card ABIT KD7-G.

Controller Ethernet Gigabit providing a peak transfer rate to 1 Gbit/with is integrated into motherboard ABIT KD7-G architecture . Besides, as a part of the given card the big number of controllers of peripheral devices is realised.

Chip set VIA Apollo KT400 of motherboard ABIT KD7

Chip set VIA Apollo KT400 which is the main unit of motherboard ABIT KD7, is developed on a basis before the released set of specialised logic VIA Apollo KT333. Chip set VIA Apollo KT400 is oriented to systems with processors AMD Athlon XP, AMD Duron with Socket A plugs (Socket 462) and with clock rate 100, 133 and 166 MHz of processor bus FSB of type DDR with data transfer on lobbies and back edges of clock pulses (DDR — Double Data Rate).

Here it is necessary to remind, that processor bus FSB of type DDR carries out data transfer on the doubled clock rate. At clock rate of 100 MHz this bus carries out data transfer with frequency of 200 MHz that provides its peak capacity to 1,6 Gbytes/with. At clock frequency of 133 MHz data transfer is fulfilled with frequency of 266 MHz. In this mode peak capacity of the processor bus reaches values of 2,1 Gbytes/with. Clock frequency of 166 MHz provides data transfer with frequency of 333 MHz that allows to reach peak capacity already 2,7 Gbytes/with.

Also it is necessary to mark, that during first time after announcement of release of this chip set, it has been presented as the specialised set of system logic supporting DDR400 units. These units work on clock rate of 200 MHz that provides data transfer with frequency of 400 MHz and allows a dynamic storage subsystem to reach a metric of peak capacity in 3,2 Gbytes/with. However in sort of long aversion the mention of the given possibility of a set of system logic has been excepted by branch of the appropriate specification from announcements and the documentation.

Traditionally chip set VIA Apollo KT400 consists of two components named North Bridge and South Bridge, jointed by the special bus which has received the name 8X V-Link. This bus works on frequency of 66 MHz and provides a transfer rate of 533 Mb per second (Quad data pump per CLK). The specified bus is bidirectional: on 266 Mb per second in each direction.

The component of chip set North Bridge presented by chip VIA VT8377, contains resources of interfaces of operation with the processor, AGP videoadapter, dynamic storage and South Bridge.

Built in in VIA VT8377 controller FSB of type DDR supports the bus with clock rate of 100/133/166 MHz.

The built in controller of memory provides support: memories DDR SDRAM (Double Data Rate SDRAM — SDRAM with data transfer on lobbies and back edges of clock pulses of the bus of memory), DDR200/266/333, a maximum memory size — to 4 Gbytes. The maximum transfer rate makes to 1,6/2,1/2,7 Gbytes/with at DDR200/266/333. By the way, the chip set, unlike VIA Apollo KT333, supports and DDR400, the truth, informally, as till now the appropriate organisations which are carrying out development of specifications, have not accepted standard DDR400.

The built in controller of a drawing supports one arrangement AGP with support of modes AGP 2X/4X/8X.

Handle of peripheral devices is carried out by the second component of a chip set — South Bridge, received name VT8235. This chip enters into a base set of chip set VIA Apollo KT400.

The built in resources of a base set support: two channels IDE with support ATA 33/66/100/133 (to 4 arrangements IDE), three controllers USB 2.0 (6 ports), 5 PCI, LPC Super I/O (Low Pin Count), AC ' 97 with support of 6 audiochannels (Surround Sound AC-97 Audio), MC ' 97, VIA 10/100 Ethernet MAC, ACR, ACPI, APM, and also other resources and functions.
