At usage of a high-speed hard disk of IBM DPTA-372050 (20 Gbytes, 2 Mb of the cache memory) in mode Ultra DMA/66 (UDMA/66) it was possible to observe a sharp gain in productivity, in comparison with hard disk Quantum Fireball CX6 (6 Gbytes), calculated for mode Ultra DMA/33 (UDMA/33).

It is expedient to remind, that from three tested motherboards mode Ultra DMA/66 is supported by cards Abit BE6-II and Chaintech CT-6ATA2 and card ASUS P3B-F does not support.
The subsequent results of performance of tests CPUmark 99 and FPU WinMark have been received for systems with the processor of Intel Celeron 433 (128 Kbytes of cache memory L2) and motherboards Asus P3B-F and Chaintech CT-6ATA2.

The resulted results of testing do not require remarks. However it is necessary to mark, that newer BIOS motherboards and more perfect device drivers functionality of computers can not only expand usage, but also increase productivity metrics. Experience shows, the given gain can be considerable and on occasion reach tens percent for some arrangements which are logging on the computer.
Recognising expediency of periodic upgrade BIOS, it is necessary to remind, that the given operation concerns to potentially dangerous and can be accompanied partial or even by complete loss of working capacity of the motherboard, and, therefore, and all system. Therefore at a lack of experience for performance of operation of upgrade BIOS it is expedient to access to experts as many computer corporations willingly render the given service for the comprehensible price.
