Expanding the nomenclature of the products, company Seagate which is the world's largest manufacturer of hard disk drives, has released ExternalHard Drive  — the peripheral of writing and storage of the computer information

The high technologies which are presented by modern resources of information processing and being a basis of a modern civilisation, all penetrate into our life more deeply. As the result of occurring changes fast grows value of the information. Moreover, it, as is known, becomes extremely valuable resource demanding specific methods and resources of processing, linked to its conversion, accumulation, storage and transportation.

The important resources of information processing are the modern computers which possibilities promptly increase thanks to fast perfection of solid-state technologies and architectures of accessories. It allows to solve more and more the challenges linked to information processing which sizes permanently grow.

But this information, obviously, it is necessary to store somewhere. For this reason the size of hard disk drives, the blessing grows, that it is promoted by development of appropriate processing techniques. As a result, the size of disk subsystems already quite often reaches tens, and recently already and hundreds gigabytes.

At all positivity of this tendency, it is necessary to recognise, that it generates one more problem — a problem of protection of especially valuable part of the information from the losses linked to glitches and mortality of internal hard disk drives. Certainly, dependability of such arrangements grows, but, unfortunately, the probability of the given negative phenomena is not equal to null. And it means, that is necessary to do a regular backup of the information — Backup.

Usually for Backup use the special arrangements working with magnetic tapes, and also magnetic, optical, magneto-optic disks and appropriate drives. Each of the named arrangements and carriers possess the merits and demerits which are often enough shined on pages of specialised issuings.

Perhaps, their lack the insufficient information capacity of similar arrangements of an information storage is main.

At the same time it is necessary to recognise, that information capacity of hard disk drives, despite periodically appearing hearings about coming nearer paramagnetic limits, permanently grows. Really, for these arrangements density and size metrics hranimoj information within the last ten years doubled each 9-12 months. As a result of this process any more is not a rarity of value of size in 200 Gbytes that does this sort nakopitelj, programs used for storage and data, almost uncontested, especially considering the low price of storage of unit of the information and a high speed of operation of the given arrangements.

Responding to requirements of the market company Seagate has designed and has released External Hard Drive  — the peripheral of writing and storage of the computer information, supplied with the appropriate software, the documentation, the power supply from a network of an alternate current power 220 In both appropriate power and informational cables. Arrangement External Hard Drive package is presented in a Fig. 1.

Basis of the given arrangement is the hard disk drive with information capacity 200 Gajt with speed of rotation of slices of 7200 rpm. As computer and arrangement External Hard Drive communication facilities external serial interfaces USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394а (WireFire) use .

Testing External Hard Drive

Pattern of the system used in testing:

·        the Motherboard of Intel D925 XCV (chip set I925 X, memory DDR2, the slot of video PCI Express x16, ports PATA and SATA),

·        the Processor of Intel of Pentium  4 with clock rate of a kernel of 3,4 GHz (LGA 775, kernel Prescott, the bus of 800 MHz, processing technique Hyper-Threading),

·        Dynamic storage DDR2 of 533 MHz, two units on 512 Mb, two channels,

·        ASUS EXTREME AX 600 XT Videoadapter (chip ATI Radeon X600 XT, bus PCI Express x16),

·        Arrangement External Hard Drive (200  Gbytes, USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394a),

·        OC Operating system Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.

After hooking up to the computer of arrangement External Hard Drive it at once were defined by the operating system of Windows 2003 Enterprise Server (a Fig. 3).

All received results of testing of arrangement External Hard Drive (200 Gbytes, USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394A) are presented in tables 1-3.

In summary it is necessary to mark, that the presented results of testing of arrangement External Hard Drive show high high-speed parametres of the given arrangement, that, generally speaking, is not unexpected as for its basis the high-powered disk drive on company Seagate hard disks is.
